The greenhouse that you are about to build would be 3000mm long x 2400mm wide.

Greenhouse Structure

Here is a list of materials that you would require to build your greenhouse:

  • 11m of 100 by 100 treated timber – used for the base
  • 100m of 75 by 50 treated timber – used for the framing of the doors as well as the windows
  • 3 m of 150 by 50 treated timber – fascia
  • 30 sq m of UV resistant polythene – this is needed for the covering of your greenhouse
  • 2400 by 1200 by 7mm treated plywood – this is required for the gussets

Some of the miscellaneous items are: – nails, plates, handles, hinges, strapping and so forth.

The end result would be a light weight, portable (you could make this a permanent fixture), cost effective greenhouse, and you will find it relatively easy to build up.

Where would you place the greenhouse?

The spot that you choose to construct your greenhouse would have to be sunny. During winter the area should be level. If you are not able to get a level spot and find yourself placing it next to a slope or a hill, then you should consider a drain to redirect water flow away from your greenhouse.

Commercial Greenhouse Frame Construction Beginning Phases

1.  Once you have chosen the acquired site for your construction, the base would be readily available from your closest timber store, as this is commonly available to build fence posts. Once the timber is in place, you then fix the corners together with nails as well as the nail plates. You have to make sure that the two measurements are equally diagonal; make the necessary adjustments if not. The end result should be a square base. Ensure that it is level by using the proper tools.

2.  The framing that measures 75 by 50 would also be readily available at your nearest timber sales store, as it is commonly used for the railing of fences. The two side walls are to be measured according to the 3000mm floor base. This would make it 1375mm in height. There should then be two studs that measures 75 by 50 in between each side wall. There should be a bracing in place from one corner of the top of the frame to just over half way across the second stud. The bottom plate of the side walls should be fixed to the base with nails.

3. 5 roof frames then should be lifted in place on top of the side walls. The fascia board is then to be nailed to the roof frames so as to make it equally vertical and parallel to each other. The window support plate may be settled in now and the side roof that has no windows should be braced.

4. The end walls: you have to make sure that the walls are vertical. The 75 by 50 treated timbers are to be used here. The studs are to be 700mm from each other to keep place for the door.
